Disgust
It's common to believe that aesthetic pursuits are just a way to express positive emotions. However, in the realm of art, the use of form, performance, and presentation can serve as powerful tools for conveying unpleasant feeling and concepts such as disgust, pain, anxiety, and ugliness.  By bringing attention to these issues through their art, artists can educate and raise awareness of injustices and many personal and social challenges.
History demonstrates that there have always been artists who aspired to produce their distinctive artworks by bypassing the prevailing aesthetic process, public taste, and market trends, as well as the formalities of academic traditions and commercial pressures. The personal taste of these artists is often in contradiction with the social taste and refined art display. The Salon des Refusés in 19th century France was also a place where such effort manifested. Artists who did not receive the approval of judges to participate in the "royal salon" displayed their works in the adjacent salon.
The works presented in this exhibition serve as both a reflection of the artists' efforts and their resistance in this progression.
